Zum Flughafen Frankfurt fahren wir mit Klaus, einem gemeinsamen Bekannten, der eineinhalb Stunden vor uns gesch\u00e4ftlich nach Japan fliegt. Das spart uns immerhin 3,5 Stunden Zugfahrt.<br \/>\nSchon drei Stunden vor Abflug stehen wir am noch geschlossenen Etihad-Schalter. Anders als im Herbst, als der Flieger nur halb voll war, m\u00fcssen wir uns diesmal keine Sorgen um leere Sitze machen &#8211; die Schlange hinter uns wird immer l\u00e4nger. Im Gegenteil: Wie sich zeigt, ist die Maschine sogar \u00fcberbucht.<br \/>\nBeim Einchecken macht uns die Fluglinie ein Angebot, das man eigentlich nicht ablehnen kann: 600 Euro bar, plus kostenloses Hotel mit Verpflegung, wenn wir erst am n\u00e4chsten Nachmittag fliegen. Nach kurzer Beratung lehnen wir aber dankend ab &#8211; wir wollen heute weg! Nach der Ankunft am fr\u00fchen Morgen in Abu Dhabi geht es nach nur zwei Stunden Aufenthalt weiter nach Bangkok, wo wir gegen 17 Uhr Ortszeit landen.<br \/>\nAls Unterkunft haben wir das Nap Inn in der Sukhumvit Road gew\u00e4hlt, einem lebhaften Viertel der Stadt, das perfekt f\u00fcr unsere ersten Tage in Thailand geeignet ist.\n<\/p>\n<h3>01.02.2010 - Sightseeing in Bangkok<\/h3>\n<p>\nMorgens treffen wir uns mit meiner Bekannten Waraporn aus Bangkok zu einem Stadtbummel. Zun\u00e4chst geht es vom Siam Square zu Fu\u00df zum Pratunam-Markt und anschlie\u00dfend auf den Baiyoke Tower, das h\u00f6chste Geb\u00e4ude der Stadt. Auf dem 87. Stockwerk wurde eine drehbare Aussichtsplattform installiert, von der aus man einen tollen Blick \u00fcber Bangkok werfen kann. Leider ist die Luftfeuchtigkeit sehr hoch, sodass die Fernsicht im wahrsten Sinne des Wortes getr\u00fcbt ist. Am Nachmittag fahren wir mit dem Skytrain zur Taksin-Br\u00fccke und dann mit dem Boot auf dem Chao-Phraya-Fluss zum Wat Arun, einer gro\u00dfen Tempelanlage.\n<\/p>\n<table>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td \u2013 Chiang Mai. Die Stadt, auch \u201eRose des Nordens\u201c genannt, z\u00e4hlt nur 175.000 Einwohner \u2013 ein gro\u00dfer Kontrast zu Bangkok mit seinen 8 bis 10 Millionen.<br \/>\nAm Flughafen treffen wir Charlie, unser drittes Gruppenmitglied f\u00fcr die kommende Zeit. Im \u201eTravellor Inn\u201c, mitten in der Stadt, sind wir relativ g\u00fcnstig untergekommen. Das Hotel ist einigerma\u00dfen sauber, hat seine besten Tage aber l\u00e4ngst hinter sich.<br \/>\nPreislich liegt Chiang Mai 20\u201330 % unter Bangkok oder Phuket. Auch der Verkehr ist entspannter: Weniger aggressiv und hektisch als im S\u00fcden. Der gr\u00f6\u00dfte Pluspunkt? Das Klima! Das Stadtbild wird gepr\u00e4gt von zahlreichen M\u00e4rkten, Tempeln, Gark\u00fcchen, Kneipen, Bars und unz\u00e4hligen Hotels sowie G\u00e4steh\u00e4usern. Sowohl Pauschaltouristen der \u00e4lteren Generation als auch junge Backpacker nutzen das \u201eTor zum Norden\u201c als Sprungbrett f\u00fcr Ausfl\u00fcge, Trekkingtouren und andere Outdoor-Abenteuer in die dschungelbedeckten Berglandschaften. Auch der Einfluss der Nachbarl\u00e4nder Myanmar und Laos ist deutlich sp\u00fcrbar.<br \/>\nHeute erkunden wir zu Fu\u00df die Altstadt \u2013 nicht zuletzt, um nach Mopeds f\u00fcr die kommenden Tage Ausschau zu halten. Nach l\u00e4ngerer Suche finden wir schlie\u00dflich welche mit gutem Preis-Leistungs-Verh\u00e4ltnis: 150 Baht (ca. 3 Euro) pro Tag sind ein Schn\u00e4ppchen. Zum Gl\u00fcck sind die Stra\u00dfen hier in gutem Zustand, sodass man kein teures Gel\u00e4ndemoped braucht.<br \/>\nDer gr\u00f6\u00dfte Touristenmagnet? Der t\u00e4gliche Night Bazaar! Hunderte St\u00e4nde und Tausende Besucher str\u00f6men hierher, um Kleidung, Souvenirs und lokale Spezialit\u00e4ten zu kaufen. Sp\u00e4tabends trifft sich die Jugend in der \u201eHot Shots\u201c-Disco mit live gespielter Musik. Das Besondere: Man darf eigene Spirituosen mitbringen und zahlt nur f\u00fcr Softdrinks und Eis. Wer um 2 Uhr morgens noch Energie hat, zieht weiter ins \u201eSpicy\u201c \u2013 ein Tanzlokal, das bis zum Sonnenaufgang ge\u00f6ffnet hat.\n<\/p>\n<table>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"text-align: Norden \u00fcber die Stra\u00dfe 107 erreichen wir Mae Rim, wo es dann nach links auf die 1096 in die Berge geht. Zwei Stunden sp\u00e4ter kommen wir in Samoeng an, \u00f6stlich von Chiang Mai. \u00dcber die 1269 und die 108 sind wir bei Einbruch der Dunkelheit wieder zur\u00fcck in der Stadt.<br \/>\nChiang Mai ist auch f\u00fcr seine Massage-Tradition bekannt. Hier gibt es unz\u00e4hlige Massage-Salons. Angeboten werden vor allem Thai-, \u00d6l- und Fu\u00dfmassagen \u2013 und das f\u00fcr nur 4\u20135 Euro pro Stunde. Auch Manik\u00fcre und Pedik\u00fcre geh\u00f6ren zum Standardprogramm. allj\u00e4hrliche Blumenfest Anfang Februar statt. H\u00f6hepunkt des dreit\u00e4gigen Festes ist am Samstag ein fantastischer Umzug mit vielen Festwagen und Fu\u00dfgruppen. Alle Bev\u00f6lkerungsgruppen und Altersklassen nehmen in traditioneller Kleidung daran teil. Kunstvoll mit Blumen dekorierte Festwagen pr\u00e4gen den etwa drei Stunden dauernden Umzug.<br \/>\nEin bisschen leid tun mir die Teilnehmer allerdings \u2013 sie m\u00fcssen etwa f\u00fcnf Kilometer Diese schaukelige Erfahrung habe ich schon mehrmals gemacht - heute lasse ich sie ausfallen.<br \/>\nWeiter geht's zur Buddha Image Cave, einem kleinen H\u00f6hlentempel in einem massiven Kalkfelsen. N\u00e4chster Stopp ist Ban Huai Mae Sai, ein Yao-Dorf mit einem gleichnamigen Wasserfall in der N\u00e4he, wo man ein erfrischendes Bad nehmen kann.<br \/>\n<b>Party auf dem Pickup<\/b><br \/>\nHeute Abend herrscht in der R+B Bar richtig Stimmung: viele G\u00e4ste, laute Musik und beste Party-Atmosph\u00e4re. Die Thais tanzen um die Wette. Als die Bar um 2 Uhr fr\u00fch schlie\u00dft, ist die Party noch lange nicht vorbei - kurzerhand wird die Ladefl\u00e4che eines Pickups zur mobilen Tanzfl\u00e4che umfunktioniert. Chiang Mai geh\u00f6ren zum Volk der Akha, einer Bergethnie an der Grenze zu Myanmar. Leider mussten sie arbeiten und konnten uns nicht nach Chiang Rai begleiten, um uns ihre Heimat zu zeigen. Doch ihren Heimatort hatten wir auf der Karte markiert - unser heutiges Ziel.<br \/>\nVon Chiang Rai aus fuhren wir zun\u00e4chst auf dem Highway nach Norden. Kurz vor Mae Chan bogen wir links auf die 1089 Richtung Osten ab. Die Abfahrt auf die 1130 in die Berge verpassten wir wohl, denn die Stra\u00dfe war gesperrt und im Bau. \u00dcber Stock und Stein, bergauf und bergab, teils auf unbefestigten Wegen, erreichten wir schlie\u00dflich den Doi Mae Satong. Hier in den H\u00f6henlagen bauen die Thais trinkbaren Tee an. Eine Stunde sp\u00e4ter kamen wir in Thoet Thai an, dem Provinznest, aus dessen Umgebung unsere Masseurinnen stammen.<br \/>\nDie R\u00fcckfahrt f\u00fchrte uns \u00fcber die 1130 nach Mae Chan und von dort auf dem Highway zur\u00fcck nach Chiang Rai. Diese abenteuerliche Tour verschlang gerade mal 4,5 Liter Sprit - umgerechnet l\u00e4cherliche 2 Euro! So g\u00fcnstig kann Mopedfahren sein!<br \/>\n<b>Begegnung in der Cat Bar<\/b><br \/>\nAm Abend machten wir in unserer Stammkneipe, der Cat Bar, eine interessante Bekanntschaft: das Hamburger Paar Rolf (70) und Silvie (61). Rolf lebt seit den 1960ern fast durchgehend in Thailand, spricht flie\u00dfend Thai und beherrscht sogar die komplizierte Schrift. Er erz\u00e4hlte faszinierende Geschichten aus fr\u00fcheren Zeiten und gab uns wertvolle Tipps. Viel l\u00e4nger h\u00e4tten wir ohnehin nicht bleiben k\u00f6nnen - unsere wenigen mitgebrachten Klamotten sind mittlerweile v\u00f6llig verschwitzt und abgetragen.<br \/>\nUm 11 Uhr starten wir auf dem bekannten Highway A2 Richtung S\u00fcden. In Wiang Pa Pao machen wir den ersten Stopp, um die Mopedketten zu checken. Zwar sind sie straff genug, aber ziemlich trocken gelaufen. Als Notl\u00f6sung schmieren wir sie mit Alt\u00f6l von der Tankstelle, das wir mit einer Zahnb\u00fcrste auftragen.<br \/>\n<b>Bergabenteuer auf der 1150<\/b><br \/>\nKurz nach Wiang Pa Pao biegen wir rechts auf die serpentinenreiche Bergstra\u00dfe 1150 ab. Die n\u00e4chsten 50 km werden zum puren Fahrvergn\u00fcgen: st\u00e4ndiges Auf und Ab, Kurve um Kurve, mal im dichten Dschungel, mal mit atemberaubenden Aussichten. Die gut ausgebaute Strecke w\u00e4re perfekt - wenn unsere Mopeds in den Steigungen nicht so schlapp machen w\u00fcrden.<br \/>\nGegen 15 Uhr erreichen wir das verschlafene Phrao, wo wir eine Reis-Pause einlegen. Die letzten 100 km auf der 1001 nach Chiang Mai verlaufen dann unspektakul\u00e4r durch flaches Terrain. Wir geben nochmal Vollgas und liefern uns Wettrennen mit Pickups, um gerade bei Einbruch der Dunkelheit anzukommen.<br \/>\n<b>Belohnung nach der Strapaze<\/b><br \/>\nDiesmal quartieren wir uns im Lanna Lodge Hotel ein - gleicher Preis wie vorher, aber mit besserem Service und saubereren Zimmern. Und hier im Norden Thailands, wo viele thai-chinesische Familien leben, wird das richtig gefeiert. Den ganzen Tag knallt und b\u00f6llert es, als g\u00e4be es kein Morgen mehr.<br \/>\nDoch das ist nicht alles - heute ist auch noch Valentinstag! Die Bars und Kneipen sind dementsprechend brechend voll. \u00dcberall sieht man M\u00e4dels in knallroten Outfits, die besonders gut gelaunt sind. Eine explosive Mischung aus Feuerwerk und Flirt-Stimmung!\n<\/p>\n<h3>15.02.2010 - Aktivurlaub<\/h3>\n<p>\nNach all den Mopedtouren, Ruhetagen und langen N\u00e4chten steht heute mal etwas f\u00fcr die Fitness auf dem Programm: ein Berglauf auf den 1.500 Meter hohen Doi Suthep. Laufm\u00f6glichkeiten sind in der weitl\u00e4ufigen Stadt mit ihrem dichten Verkehr rar \u2013 da bleibt nur der Hausberg.<br \/>\nDie Herausforderung: eine 9 km lange Serpentinenstra\u00dfe bergauf. Um 7 Uhr morgens ist der perfekte Zeitpunkt \u2013 bei angenehmen knapp 20 Grad und noch ohne Touristengruppen. W\u00e4hrend die Strecke mit dem Moped letzte Woche noch ein Kinderspiel war, kommt sie mir im Laufschritt mindestens doppelt so lang vor!<br \/>\nDer Abstieg ist zwar angenehmer, aber unten angekommen, melden sich meine Beine lautstark. Zum Gl\u00fcck kann man sich hier an jeder Ecke bei einer Massage den verspannten K\u00f6rper wieder \"zurechtbiegen\" lassen \u2013 die perfekte Belohnung nach dieser Anstrengung!\n<\/p>\n<h3>16.02.2010 - Ruhetag in Chiang Mai<\/h3>\n<p>\nAusgenommen der t\u00e4glichen Massagen tut sich heute nicht sehr viel ...\n<\/p>\n<h3>17.02.2010 - die Welt der Massagekurse<\/h3>\n<p>\nNach mehreren Wochen Urlaub wird es Zeit, etwas Sinnvolles zu tun \u2013 und was passt hier besser als ein Massagekurs? Nach unz\u00e4hligen genossenen Massagen m\u00f6chte ich nun selbst lernen, wie man richtig behandelt \u2013 oder zumindest beurteilen k\u00f6nnen, ob ich gut massiert werde.<br \/>\nIn Chiang Mai gibt es eine Au\u00dfenstelle der renommierten Massageschule des Tempels Wat Pho aus Bangkok, wo ich vor vier Jahren bereits einen Grundkurs in Thai-Massage absolviert habe. Diesmal entscheide ich mich f\u00fcr einen Aufbaukurs in \u00d6lmassage \u2013 eine Mischung aus schwedischer, thail\u00e4ndischer, Fu\u00df- und Sportmassage.<br \/>\nMit 6.500 Baht (ca. 140 Euro) ist der Kurs ein echtes Schn\u00e4ppchen \u2013 in Deutschland w\u00fcrde man leicht das Zehnfache zahlen. Da die Schule sonntags geschlossen hat und wir am Montag nach Phuket weiterreisen, muss ich den eigentlich f\u00fcnft\u00e4gigen Kurs in vier Tagen durchziehen \u2013 abends hei\u00dft es dann l\u00e4nger \"nachsitzen\".<br \/>\nAls einziger Teilnehmer genie\u00dfe ich privaten Einzelunterricht bei meinem Lehrer Nui, einem kompetenten und lustigen Thail\u00e4nder. Doch das war erst der Anfang \u2013 beim Aufpumpen an der Tankstelle gab es einen lauten Knall, und der Mantel war nur noch Schrott.<br \/>\nAn einem Sonntag in Thailand ist das ein echtes Problem \u2013 die meisten Werkst\u00e4tten haben zu. Nach l\u00e4ngerer Suche finde ich doch noch eine ge\u00f6ffnete Werkstatt. Der Kostenvoranschlag l\u00e4sst mich schmunzeln:<br \/>\n- 150 Baht f\u00fcr einen neuen Mantel<br \/>\n- 50 Baht f\u00fcr den Einbau<br \/>\nGesamt: 4 Euro!<br \/>\nBei dem Preis lohnt sich selbst schrauben wirklich nicht \u2013 und dem freundlichen Mechaniker gebe ich gern noch 1 Euro Trinkgeld obendrauf. Also geht\u2019s heute mit dem Nachtzug nach Bangkok \u2013 in einem gem\u00fctlichen 2.-Klasse-Schlafwagen f\u00fcr nur 11 Euro pro Person. Bei 14 Stunden Fahrt ist das die perfekte Wahl!<br \/>\nSo l\u00e4uft eine thail\u00e4ndische Zugnacht ab:<br \/>\nGegen 19:30 Uhr verwandeln die Schaffner die Sitze in Liegefl\u00e4chen \u2013 frisch bezogen und alles!<br \/>\nDa wir noch nicht m\u00fcde sind, zieht es uns in den Speisewagen \u2013 ein Bier muss sein, f\u00fcr die n\u00f6tige \"Bettschwere\".<br \/>\nDort herrscht bereits internationale Party-Stimmung: Thais, Deutsche und Japaner feiern bei Bier und Thai-Whiskey \u2013 und wir sind bald mittendrin!<br \/>\nDer H\u00f6hepunkt des Abends: Der uniformierte (und bewaffnete!) Zugpolizist \u00fcbernimmt die Rolle des Party-Animators. Offenbar hat er schon \"\u00fcber den Durst\" getrunken, fordert alle zum Mittrinken auf \u2013 und stimmt pl\u00f6tzlich \"Jingle Bells\" an. 5:30 Uhr geht es direkt weiter: Wir jagen zum Flughafen, um den AirAsia-Flug nach Phuket um 8:40 Uhr zu erwischen. Kein Zeit zum Verschnaufen \u2013 aber das Ziel lockt!<br \/>\nIn Chalong, einem Ort im S\u00fcden Phukets, haben wir unser Quartier bezogen. Hier betreibt mein Bekannter Peter mit seiner thail\u00e4ndischen Frau das Piraten-Restaurant Captain Hook (nat\u00fcrlich mit Meerblick!).
